(Building Leadership Around Sustainable Transformation)
Why Blast
Facing the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, young people bear the burden of creating a sustainable future. Often, they hear about the problems but not the solutions being pursued globally, leading to a sense of environmental doom. This can make it hard for them to see how they can contribute. People of all ages can respond by ignoring the problem, feeling overwhelmed, or taking action. Studies show that taking action transforms doom into hope.
To avoid placing the burden solely on young people, BLAST connects mentors and students to solve environmental problems together. By working across generations, we can make a difference and foster hope.
Description
Students apply and submit initial project proposals. They are partnered with expert mentors to receive guidance and develop their ideas. Not only will students have access to mentorship. but they will also have the chance to win funding and recognition in a Shark Tank-styled competition, which will take place in April 2025. Prize money can be used to help with project implementation or continuing education. All BLAST participants can receive on-going support for their projects through Accelerate Climate Solutions after the competition. This support can take the form of on-going mentorship, assistance with finding funding sources, internships, and more.
